Carved
out entirely of the famed red sandstone of Jodhpur, Fort Chanwa,
constructed by Kaviraj Muraridanji, is a wonderful symbol of Indian
architectural heritage of yore. The fort is composed of courtyards
towers, water, wheels, stables, passages, unexpected stairways
to secret pavilions and panoramic rooftops, all of which bear
testimony to the grace and symmetry of the architecture. The most
attractive feature is the intricate latticework done on the windows
all over the palace. Traditional paintings adorn the walls of
the fort, which has been superbly refurbished to its former glory
by its owners Maharaj Dalip Singhji and his wife Rani Madhu. Fort
Chanwa is located in the Luni district, 35 kms away from Jodhpur,
about 9 Kms off Jodhpur-Udaipur highway.
